EARTHRUN
IBIZA 2010
- press release -
Join in for the benefit of your
environment!!
Help us to raise funds to support environmental awareness projects in
Ibiza
For the second time,
Ibiza
will celebrate ’Earthrun’
a yearly international charity event which will take place on Sunday
April 25 and start at 12:00h (Registration at 11:00h), from
the Bar Funky Lizard
next to the
Es Pouet beach in the
bay
of San
Antonio. Organized by
Follow Your
Heart Productions and the
Ibiza Greenheart
movement, with support from the
town hall
of
San Antonio and various local businesses, the
Earthrun
event is open to the entire island community, bringing together
children &
adults, artists &
musicians, local authorities
& public, in an
entertaining combination of sport
and ecology.
At the signal, hundreds of participants will
run, cycle, skate, walk
(or even dance), along
the coastal pathway and then back to finish in the
Passeig de
ses Fonts in downtown
San Antonio,
covering a distance of some 5 kilometers. (A shorter route is
also possible for small children).
The whole event should be lots of fun for everyone, accompanied by
samples of organic food & drinks,
natural health therapies and
special activities for children,
plus a full program of live music
& entertainment until
the end of the day.
Ibiza
is the first place in Europe to organize the
Earthrun
event, which originated in the city of Vancouver and which is already
successfully operating simultaneously in different cities across Canada
and the U.S.A., raising
environmental awareness and
funding for local
ecologic projects, as well as
promoting sustainable lifestyle
techniques and building green communities.
We believe that maintaining a clean natural environment is one of the
main challenges facing our island, especially in summertime, with the
extra presence of over three million tourist visitors from all over the
world.
For this reason, the objective of the
2010
Earthrun
is to raise funds for an island wide awareness campaign, involving local
community action around the concept of
promoting a cleaner island for all.
In this sense, we propose to launch a
special cleaning and
public awareness project in collaboration with local
authorities. This will be consistent with the implementation of existing
Agenda 21 initiatives and
include some new ideas from the increasingly popular ’Transition
town’ movement. Actions will include the drafting of awareness
raising posters, special public exhibitions and an informative video
about recycling in
Ibiza.
This is all due to take place during the summer season, when it is hoped
there will be a maximum public participation from both local residents
and visiting tourists, ensuring a successful positive result.
Participants in the
Earthrun
event will help to raise funds by signing up and soliciting support from
friends and family, plus promoting the event between individuals who
wish to ’step out for a healthier
planet’.
This year we also invite companies and organizations to participate by
forming teams to make the event more consolidated and more fun for
everyone.
* Please note that on
Sunday 25th April,
La Casita Verde will be closed for
visitors and we will welcome you at the
Earthrun. |
